If you set up a structure of progressive sub-headlines, you’ll have a better shot getting your point across.

Where do your prospective customers read after the headline and sub-headlines? Typically, they will read any captions you have under pictures in your ad copy.

CAPTIONS UNDER PICTURES

Newspaper journalists were the first to use captions. A caption is a few words below a photograph to explain what the picture is.

People are in the habit of looking for the captions in order to relate the importance of the image with the information they are receiving. Captions in advertising pieces are highly read.

We have become a multi-functioning

28th July

We have become a multi-functioning society, but tasks are completed accurately, when we focus on one thing at a time. This is another reason why workers are so ?stressed out,? and why so many products or services are sub-standard.

After a brief bio, I follow up with an overview of objectives, as this is why your audience is listening to you. Emphasize solutions and gravitate away from a grievance committee atmosphere, unless management wants grievances to be ?aired out.? As you can imagine, management could be the creator of all the work-related stress.

Bear in mind that we have only considered job stress so far. Many people in your audience have unique situations with their families and friends. Therefore, stress, and their reactions to it, are all different.

Make sure that your stress management presentation has an air of mutual respect. If you appear to ?look down on the audience,? you will not be able to present solutions effectively. You have to observe the audience at all times, in order to keep the ?communication link? open.

This barrage of anti-midwife articles and

28th July

This barrage of anti-midwife articles and propaganda continues today despite the lack of any studies or statistics to prove claims that physicians guarantee the safest outcomes or healthier babies or mothers.

What do the Statistics Show?

Every valid study to date has shown that midwife-attended birth is at least as safe as physician-attended birth. Additionally, those who have a midwife-attended birth can expect to have fewer interventions of all kinds. In the early 1970′s only 0.5% of all births were attended by midwives, but in 1980 this grew to 2.1% and in 1990 to 3.9%*. Infant mortality, IM, is one criteria for assessing safety of births. The most general use of the term includes infant deaths from birth to the first birthday. 1990 statistics from the Center for Disease Control show that Direct Entry Midwives had the lowest IM, half that of M.D.’s.

Madrid has real anxiety over tie

0 Comments | Evening Times; Glasgow (UK), Jul 26, 2010 | by CHRIS JACK

BRAGA midfielder Andres Madrid today admitted his side are in disarray ahead of their Champions League clash with Celtic.

The Hoops face the Portuguese cracks on Wednesday in the first leg of their second qualifying round meeting but, after crashing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of lowly Second Division outfit Varzim in their final build-up match, Madrid admits he is very worried ahead of Celtic’s visit in two days’ time.

The former Porto star said: “We need to be ready for the game against Celtic.

“There is anxiety in the dressing room. We seem nervous.

“We all know what is at stake ahead of the Celtic match and perhaps that is why we haven’t played at our best.

“It will take us time to blend together because we have a lot of new players.

“We know about Celtic. We know they are a big, strong team and we will be in for a physical battle.”

A positive result in Portugal would leave Neil Lennon’s side in pole position to qualify for the next round ahead of the return leg at Parkhead next week.

Braga finished second in the Portuguese Premier League last season and manager Domingos Paciencia is leaving no stone unturned as he looks to mastermind a way past the Hoops.

He said: “I sent our scout out to the States to watch Celtic’s matches and he has reported back a lot of information.

“I’ve also spoken with contacts at Sporting Lisbon. They gave us some tips on how Celtic played, where they found their strengths and weaknesses to be.

“It’s really important that we win and progress in the competition.”

In order to

28th July

In order to stop a further decline in the environment and to replace non-renewable energy many different alternative power sources are being researched and implemented. One such renewable energy source is hydro energy and involves using water to turn turbines, which in turn generates electricity creating hydro energy. The theory is very similar to that of wind energy but instead of the wind turning the sails we use flowing water.

A brief history of hydropower.

The first ever water power station was in Godalming, England in 1881 introducing hydropower as a source of electricity. Previously water turbines had only been used for pumping and irrigation but that has changed significantly now.

Classic home offers spectacular vistas

0 Comments | Bath Chronicle, The, Mar 18, 2010

Crowe Hall is a classic Grade II Listed Bath villa, understood to have originally been built in about 1760 for an unknown member of the Crowe family. In 1961 the house was bought by Sir Sydney Barratt who filled the house with 18th century furniture and pictures suited to the period of the original house. Crowe Hall has been in the same family ever since, and is on the open market for the first time in living memory.

Crowe Hall is a Bath stone townhouse in a remarkable hillside setting with long views from the gardens and grounds, including a spectacular vista across to the 18th century Prior Park, built by John Wood with gardens inspired and created by Capability Brown.

The house has been extensively remodelled and extended over the years and is now in need of modernisation and improvement to suit modern day needs. It represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Bath’s finest houses.

The property is approached via large wrought iron electric gates from Widcombe Hill. The drive sweeps up to the magnificent pillared, stone portico with its grand Ionic capitals at the entrance to the house, where there is a turning and parking area.

The house is ideally suited for family living or entertaining on a grand scale, with wonderful tall ceilings and architectural detail including ornate cornicing, architraves and open fireplaces with pretty marble surrounds.

The entrance hall, supported by four pillars with Doric capitals, is stunning.

Full of details and historical interest this magnificent entrance hall is very much the showpiece and heart of the house, with vaulted ceilings and a polished hard wood floor that extends through the house and to the elegant staircase ahead.

The library is accessed straight from the hall and has excellent high ceilings, large windows and an open fire. The morning room, drawing room and dining room are inter-connecting with more tall ceilings and architectural detail including ornate cornicing, architraves and open fireplaces with marble surrounds.

All of these rooms are exceptionally light and bright with large sash windows and French doors giving stunning views up towards Prior Park and access onto the terrace.

There is a butler’s pantry, flower room, sitting room and kitchen/ breakfast room, laundry/utility, larder and pantry.

From the rear hallway there are stairs down to the extensive cellars which includes wine bins, numerous stores, vaults and the boiler room.

The main stairs rise to the galleried landing off which is the master bedroom with en suite bathroom and dressing room. There are a further nine separate bedrooms and four bath/shower rooms, three of these bedrooms are currently incorporated within a self-contained staff flat which can be accessed by a secondary staircase.

The gardens and grounds are a wonderful feature of the property and are listed on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest as Grade II. The formal garden is screened and protected from the driveway and entered via a stone doorway

S&T Bancorp earns $7.9 million in quarter

0 Comments | Tribune – Review / Pittsburgh Tribune – Review, Jul 19, 2010 | by Thomas Olson

S&T Bancorp. Inc. posted quarterly earnings of nearly $7.9 million Monday, compared with a loss of $10.2 million the year earlier.

The main reason was the level of loan-loss provisions, which dropped to $9.1 million from more than $32 million in the 2009 period. The amounts are set aside to cover losses from loans that go sour.

“While our loan portfolio is beginning to show signs of stabilization, we are cognizant of the fact the economic recovery has not fully taken shape,” CEO Todd Brice said
